Contract biomanufacturing firm Alpha Biologics has announced the appointment of Mark Doran as its Director of Process Development. The company has R&D and process development laboratories at Cambridge,UK and a newly-completed $18m cGMP biomanufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia, for the production of mammalian cell proteins. Michelle Peake, Alpha's COO said:
"Mark has had 14 years of cGMP manufacturing experience with Abbott Laboratories. This includes six years of manufacturing purified proteins for diagnostic ELISA plates, assay kit diluents and enzyme linked conjugation - plus eight years of cGMP monoclonal antibodies production and that meets a key part of our requirements".
Mark is based at the company's UK laboratories on Babraham Research Park, Cambridge, where he will head up Alpha's UK operations, as well as being responsible for process development staff in the UK and Malaysia. Says Mark:
"I've worked at all stages of cGMP manufacturing from cell culture, purification and analysis process development through to manufacturing - about 80 projects in all. My background also includes technology transfer responsibility, which will be important here, as most customers will have process development carried out in Cambridge, which will then be transferred for cGMP manufacture in Penang".
